How Well Do You Maintain Balance?

If trying to maintain balance in your life makes you feel like a tightrope walker, you’re not alone. Most of us have so many feng-shuiiiiiiiiiiidemands on our time and energy, life can feel like a three-ring circus. incenseIf we look like Buddhists and talk like Buddhists and sit on a cushion like the other Buddhists, then we think we are automatically followers of the Buddha’s teachings. But all these concepts are cutting us off from the utter simplicity of the Buddha’s example and message.

We do what we do simply to wake up, simply to be free. Any form we use is only a support of accomplishing that purpose. We could be perfect in the performance of a thousand rituals, and they could all be empty of all meaning or benefit if we don’t connect with our heart.

If we’re not developing our awareness in our everyday life, then we’re missing the point.

Focus and Simplicity

For many of us life is very busy and full of “stuff” we have to do.  It can be a bit overwhelming at times when we try to think of everything and then process the how, when, and can we do it all.

I like the phrase “chewable bite-sized portions” and try to apply it to my “To Do” list of things.  There is no way possible to accomplish several things at one time without driving yourself crazy.  You must break the list down into these “bite-sized portions” in order to begin.

It is a process.  First you must make the list and prioritize what comes first, second and so on.  Then write a brief outline of what it will take just to finish number one, do not think about anything else but number one.  By completely focusing on your simple outline for number one and taking it step-by-step you…

As I get older, I realize more and more that growing older is not for wimps. New and unusual hair begins to grow in places that you believed to be bare, and you need a magnifying mirror before you can even begin to pluck it out. I’ve been trying to figure out if our eyes naturally begin to fail in our forties as a way to allow us to not be able to see ourselves as clearly as before for self-preservation purposes, or if their slow demise is a thermometer designed to help you come to terms with the fact that you are getting older.

Dream Manager BookI’ve met a lot of business owners who started their company to follow their dreams, but over time the team has become a place of frustration for the employees and the owner. I recently read a book title The Dream Manager, and it has some great concepts that you should consider in our efforts to build a fully engaged and loyal team.

The Dream Manager, written by Matthew Kelly,  is a story of a janitorial service company that created a role called the “Dream Manager” as an effort to keep good employees, and reduce the cost of the constant employee turnover. The book suggests that you will never be able to promote enough, give enough benefits, or pay enough money to keep people engaged and committed to your company, unless your company takes an active role in helping them achieve their own dreams.
